TIMES TULUNGAGUNG, BATUCafé Ubi located in Pandanrejo Village, Bumiaji sub-district, Batu, serves free sweet potatoes.

In this café, the visitors can enjoy this free traditional snack while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the village.

The serene atmosphere in the middle of the field makes this café, which is managed by the locals, to be the prima donna of Batu city.

There are various kinds of food served in this café. Not only sweet potatoes, but this café also serves emblok kentang, the traditional food of Jurang Kuali, Sumberbrantas Village, which is located in the southern area of Batu.

Emblok Kentang is a kind of fried potato served with shallot and chili relish.

This café also has special menu with a very affordable price, which is Nasi Sambal with vegetables, Ikan Klotok, tempe, and fried eggplant.

This café, which area reaches up to 1,500 meter square, also serves various juices made of the indigenous fruits of Batu. This café can accommodate up to 100 visitors.

The owner of Café Ubi is Suhartin, a female farmer that joins Pandanrejo Village Female Farmers Group.

 “I made this Café Ubi because I want to make Pandanrejo Village to be a great tourism attraction. I know that this village has had many tourism objects, so I want to add some culinary tourism in this village to make it complete,” she said to TIMES Indonesia.

The café established in June 2019 is located in the middle of field that cultivates various vegetables and fruits. It is located along the road leading to Coban Lanang, Pandanrejo Village.

The visitors can reach this place by private vehicle. However, if they use public transportation, they should walk around 500 meter from Jalan Raya Pandanrejo.

Café Ubi cultivates the sweet potatoes grown in intercropping.

 “Previously, the sweet potatoes become the main consumption of the local farmers. In fact, we can yield up to 1 ton of sweet potatoes in every four months,” said Surhatin.

Then, they give these sweet potatoes for free for the visitors of Café Ubi. Every visitor will get two pieces of sweet potato.

The visitors may ask for more sweet potato for IDR 10,000 per portion. This sweet potato is cooked by using ground cooker made of wood. This cooking method makes the sweet potato has a more delicious taste.

 “The visitors do not only enjoy eating the sweet potato, but they also can watch the live cooking process and take some selfies,” she said.

Café Ubi is also in partnership with Tubing Kali Lanang. One tubing package includes the lunch, and it only costs IDR 75,000.

The Acting Head of Service of Batu Tourism Office, Imam Suryono, invites the visitors to visit various culinary tourism in Batu city.

 “There are many thematic cafes in Batu, such as Omah Kumpul in Sisir, Sontoloyo in Bulukerto Village, D Goendoe in Sumbergondo and Tulungrejo, and Café Ubi in Pandanrejo,” said Imam. (*)
